This question is dependent on many factors. The very general answer is that the home will be awarded to one party or sold to a third party. To decide what will happen, the Court will look to the wishes of the parties (who wants to stay in the home?), the ability to keep the home (can you afford it?), the ability to buy the other party out of the equity in the home (can you borrow enough to finance the home and the equity payoff to your spouse?), and any other relevant factors in your case.
